I heard that foreign tourists often visit “Kagaya”, the unique casual restaurant in Shimbashi(Shinbashi). The best way to get to Shimbashi is two stops from Tokyo Station on the Yamanote line and there are many offices and office workers. That restaurant is located in the basement of the multi-tenant building near Shimbashi Station.
When you enter Kagaya, you can see and enjoy the performances of owner. He sings a song from Anpanman(a Japanese famous animation for children) and uses an Anpanman electric doll to deliver Oshibori(a hand towel) to guests. Such a wonderful welcoming!
The menu items are also strange. The menus are notebooks which are often used by Japanese elementary school children. One would wonder if this were the time for studying?
When you open the menu, it reads “Please decide on a serving method for drinks; Japan, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil or France”.
You are made to shout to the owner loudly and wholeheartedly when you order you food. This is the restaurant where customers are tested on their communication skills.
If you specify the “China” in the way you want your drinks served, the owner will do Kung Fu. Although it is a small restaurant, he jumps up and down.
If you choose the U.K., a teddy bear will carry the drinks out, saying “oh, it’s heavy…”
The performances of the owner are very interesting. The food is authentic Japanese home cooking prepared by his mother and tastes great.
Kagaya has become famous for foreigners ever since it was introduced on CNN.
