The Tokyu Toyoko above-ground line in Shibuya Station will be closed and a new underground station will open on 15/03/2013. The Tokyu Toyoko Line will be connected with the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line and it will be much more convenient to commuters such as people who live in Yokohama and Saitama.
The Tokyu Toyoko above-ground line in Shibuya Station was built in 1927, so this old station watched over people in Shibuya for 86 years. Some people feel sad towards this change and visited Shibuya Station to see the old station and railway.
Today Shibuya Station was crowded with many people. Most of them had cameras and are called Toritetsu; people who like taking pictures of trains and railways.
They took pictures not only on Shibuya Station but also on pedestrian bridges or old buildings anywhere they could see trains. The station staffs was always shouting to them “Don’t stop to take pictures on the platform!”
You can see the new Shibuya Station tomorrow. Construction work that changed everything underground will be done for only 4 hours, after the final train tonight and before the first train tomorrow morning. It is great technology that can only be found in Japan.
